What it shows is that water exhibits a very strong surface tension, so strong that even droplets of water will bounce on water! How sea urchin is really shaped

These beautiful 2D and 3D representations of sea urchin juxtaposed, have taught me, that among many different varieties of sea urchins that exist, there is one thing in common (visually): they have five-fold symmetry. As you can see, the skeletons – or when you take all the pointy and spiky stuff away – it’s clear that the creature has pentagonal symmetry. Pentamerism is the word for this variant of radial symmetry, meaning that the organism is in five parts around a central axis. This information was so fresh to me, as I saw before sea urchins having more of a ‘round’ shape. Those pink and purple colors are natural!

This song came up to my mind (邦題は「暑い夏をぶっとばせ」), and goes like this:

“Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer

…I don’t think that is Japanese summer. This humidity makes everything look blurry and stagnant, including the ocean. Although, haze is not really related to humidity (but laziness is), given that it is ‘an atmospheric phenomenon where dust, smoke and other dry particles obscure the clarity of the sky.’ However, haze particles seem to promote the formation of mist droplets (by acting as condensation nuclei); such forms of haze are known as “wet haze.”

I found this sign at a supermarket in Japan! I think it is (must be) a result of some direct machine-translation of their Japanese advertisement. But it makes no sense!!! I could not even guess the original Japanese for the first line. …Dandy? Somewhat unrelated, the close link between food and overall well-being is more emphasized in Japan. For example, “Ishoku-Dogen (医食同源)” is a word that describes that a balanced diet leads to a healthy body, or healthy food both prevents and cures sickness. This word appears a lot recently as many food items now have ‘health claims’ under the Tokuho system (Food for Special Health Use: FOSHU). So I guess it’s not so far off, that a supermarket says “look for your ‘wonderful’.”
